Majority of Producers Support Checkoff

A majority of beef producers continue to support the beef checkoff program, according to the results of an independent survey released Friday during the 2003 Cattle Industry Convention in Nashville.

The research indicates that 60% of producers approve of the checkoff. Thirteen percent consider their position neutral, while 27% disapprove of the program. However, 77% of producers responding to the survey said they believe that the beef checkoff has value. This is up from the 66% of producers who felt the checkoff was beneficial when surveyed in the summer of 2002.

The survey was conducted for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB) by Aspen Media and Market Research of Boulder, CO. It was conducted in December 2002 and January 2003. Margin of error for the survey was plus or minus 2.8%.

Of the 1,225 producers surveyed, 91 percent said it was important to them to know how their checkoff dollars are being invested and what the results of those investments are.
