ANCW Working Group Highlights

Highlights from ANCW Foundation; Junior & Collegiate Cattlewomen; and Bylaw, Policies and Procedures, and Resolutions Working Group.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 3, 2015) — A number of American National CattleWomen Inc. (ANCW) working groups met the day preceding the 2015 Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show in San Antonio Feb. 4-7, 2015. Highlights from three working groups are as follows:

ANCW Foundation

The ANCW Foundation is working to enhance its partnerships and grant writing to help fund the quality of programs needed to recruit more quality members and to improve opportunities for existing members.

The Foundation pays $1,200 each for two ANCW members to attend the Young Cattlemen’s Conference. The conference costs have risen to $3,000 this year, but many states help their cattlewomen offset the rest of the conference costs.

The deadline for funding requests was voted to be 45 days prior to the annual convention and again at 45 days prior to the summer convention.

ANCW Foundation officers were elected, including President Kristy Lage, Vice President Fita Witte, Secretary Patti Townsend, and Treasurer Mary Jo Rideout. The two elected trustees are Kristy Lage and Mary Jo Rideout. Two more trustees will be elected from the floor of the general membership meeting.

Junior and Collegiate CattleWomen

New, young members are a constant recruitment effort. Two ways of preparing young women for the ANCW is through the Junior and Collegiate CattleWomen programs. Junior CattleWomen are from ages 8-17, and College CattleWomen are eligible at 17 and older.

The Junior CattleWomen program is new. A Facebook and Instagram presence and adapted logo are in the works. Programs will be developed to focus on three emphasis areas for young girls — communications, nutrition and leadership.

Brainstorming was done to entice more involvement from Collegiate CattleWomen toward the ANCW program. Options included incentivizing membership through offset membership fees, opportunities for professional networking and food.

Bylaw, Policies and Procedures, and Resolutions

This working group was busy to update its bylaws, policies and procedures, and resolutions to reflect the organizational structure change approved last year.

The most significant changes came from the Membership and Communications meeting just prior to the Bylaws, Policies and Procedures, and Resolutions. Instead of a continuous anniversary date for each member, the membership date was changed to Oct. 1, in which yearly dues will be due. Delinquent dues will be deemed by Dec. 31.

The membership newsletter will be delivered in a digital form now, or a printed version can be requested by paying a $10 subscription fee.

The creation of a bylaws toolkit or the creation of a service was discussed to help state CattleWomen groups with their own bylaws.
