Mike Byrne, CA, was awarded the Trailblazer Award.
Mike Byrne, left, a cow-calf producer from Tulelake, CA, is presented the BEEF magazine Trailblazer Award for 2002 by BEEF Senior Editor Clint Peck. The award is given annually by the editorial staff of BEEF magazine to a producer of foresight whose efforts in the previous calendar year were instrumental in pushing forward research, programs or projects that were of high significance to the U.S. beef industry.

Byrne was selected for his key role in focusing national media attention on the agricultural impacts of arbitrary, non science-based application of the Endangered Species Act. His grassroots efforts helped force a whole new approach by federal agencies to interpreting and implementing federal environmental rules and regulations.
