State Cattle Leaders Step Into Checkoff Leadership Position

New officers to head the Federation of State Beef Councils; other state representatives join the Beef Promotion and Operating Committee

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (Feb. 4,  2009)  – The Federation of State Beef Councils, the beef checkoff division of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, named new Federation officers and representatives to the Beef Promotion and Operating Committee (BPOC) during the 2009 annual Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show, held last week in Phoenix, Ariz.
Nebraska cattleman J.D. Alexander was elected chairman of the Federation, succeeding 2008 Federation chairman Alan Albright, a farmer/feeder from Lytton, Iowa. During Albright’s term, Alexander was Federation vice chairman.
Scott George, a Wyoming dairyman, was elected Federation vice chairman, replacing Alexander. Both men will serve one year terms in their Federation positions.  The Federation chair and vice chair automatically serve on the BPOC, too.
The other eight Federation members named to the BPOC are: Linda Joy Stovall (Texas); Tamara Ogilvie (N.M); Chuck Adami (Wis.) David Dick (Mo.); Becky Walth (S.D.); Craig Uden (Neb.); David Hamilton (Neb.); and Helen Weise (Iowa).
The BPOC decides the final annual budget and program priorities for national beef checkoff initiatives. The BPOC is comprised of 10 members from the Federation and 10 members from the Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB). The BPOC unites checkoff dollars and decision-making responsibilities from the states’ 50-cent portion of the checkoff, through the Federation, and the national 50 cents, represented by CBB representatives on the BPOC.
