| John Dillard of Virginia Tech University was named the overall winner of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange/National Cattlemen’s Foundation Scholarship Program. Out of nearly 100 applicants, 20 students were presented $1,250 scholarships. Dillard also won an expense-paid trip to the 2004 Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show in Phoenix, Ariz., where he received the award at the awards luncheon Jan. 31. Presented in honor of 1997 National Cattlemen’s Beef Association president Max Deets, the award is presented to the chairman of the Young Cattlemen’s Conference. Annually, YCC participants select an individual who demonstrates outstanding leadership during the week-long tour to serve as chairman of the conference the following year.
