Committees and their members are the backbone of the development of policies and programs. This session will provide committee members with the opportunity to hear National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) leadership give them their charge with special emphasis on the proposed new industry long-range plan.


JOINT GLOBAL CONSUMER MARKETING GROUP

Joint Global Consumer Marketing Group
9:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m., Ballroom 4
The group will convene to hear program issues updates from all the joint marketing committees. Following the group meeting, the individual joint committees will convene. Chairman: Lisa Hefner; Vice Chairman: Jay O’Brien

Joint Advertising Committee
11:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Room 603
An update on 2006 advertising plans will be followed by discussion related to 2007 planning. The committee will set priorities that will serve as the basis for 2007 checkoff advertising. Chair: John Dudley; Vice Chairwoman: Glenda Flora

Joint Retail Committee
11:45 a.m. – 4 p.m., Room 702
The committee will discuss 2006 retail priorities and key initiatives. Listen to a status update on the 2006 Retail Authorization Request and highlights of the final results of the 2005 Summer Grilling Promotion. In addition to the key account manager presentations, the committee will introduce a discussion on key account manager staffing and focus. Chairwoman: Virginia Coelho; Vice Chairman: Don Stewart

Joint Foodservice Committee
11:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Room 708
Keeping beef king on the menu and safe on the plate are priorities of this committee. Targeting industry trendsetters and high-volume chains has resulted in the successful launch of the flat-iron steak, ranch steak and petite tender in foodservice. Hear a report on the number of pounds sold in the channel and develop priorities for the coming year. Chairwoman: Laurie Bryant; Vice Chairman: Brian Healey

Joint International Markets Committee
11:45 a.m. – 5 p.m., Ballroom 1
Get the latest update on recent trade negotiations in the World Trade Organization (WTO), efforts to get U.S. beef into the European Union (EU) and what future agreements such as a free trade agreement (FTA) with South Korea will mean for U.S. cattlemen. The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) will discuss programs overseas to regain market share for U.S. beef and beef products. Chairman: Ed Blair; Vice Chairman: Dan Dierschke

Joint New Product & Culinary Initiatives Committee
11:45 a.m. – 6 p.m., Room 601
This committee sets strategies for the checkoff-funded New Product and Culinary Center (R&D Ranch®) programs and also houses the National Beef Cook-Off® program. Participants will discuss program priorities and key initiatives for 2006 and hear the latest on exciting new beef concepts and culinary trends. Chairwoman: Hope Huffman; Vice Chairman: Tom Hotz

Joint Veal Committee
11:45 a.m. – 6 p.m., Room 710
This committee, consisting of veal producers and packer/processor partners, will review new veal initiatives for fiscal year (FY) 2006, study new recommendations for foodservice advertising and public relations, and receive state beef council program updates. Chairman: Mike Mosner; Vice Chairman: Bill Ehrke

MANAGEMENT GROUP
Joint Human Nutrition Research Committee
9:45 a.m. – 1 p.m., Room 104
The committee will consider Dietary Guidelines 2010 and research opportunities needed to communicate beef’s nutritional benefits as it discusses 2006 research priorities. The discussion will begin with the NCBA Nutrition Research Discovery Symposium conducted in conjunction with the convention Thursday, Feb. 2, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Chairman: Greg Hilgeman; Vice Chairwoman: Becky Walth

The committee will discuss the priorities key to the production sector, as well as the latest research and application of technology. Chairwoman: Connee Quinn; Vice Chairman: Barry Dunn

Joint Beef Safety Committee
9:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Room 102
The committee will discuss research priorities for FY 2007 and hear results from recently completed beef safety research studies. Topics to be covered include pathogen science, bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), the Beef Industry Food Safety Council and dissemination and educational initiatives. Joint Product Enhancement Committee
10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Room 103
The committee will focus on research priorities for the upcoming fiscal year and review ongoing projects related to quality and yield prediction, muscle profiling and genomics. Chairman: Bill Rishel; Vice Chairman: Glen Dolezal

Joint Nutrition & Health and Joint Human Nutrition Research committees
11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Room 104
In this combined session, the committees will review the current nutrition environment outlook, including key factors and issues affecting the beef industry in the next five years. The committees will also discuss nutrition research and communications strategies the beef industry is developing to enhance and promote beef’s health benefits, particularly in preparation for the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

This meeting will be the venue for initiating the FY 2007 research planning process for beef safety, market research, product enhancement and human nutrition research. Chairman: Roger West; Vice Chairman: Keith Hansen
